The Town of Innisfail would like to remind all property owners that they are responsible for the maintenance of trees and shrubs that encroach from their property into right-of-ways in a manner that is safe for the public.
Homeowners must keep hedges, trees and shrubs on their property trimmed so they don’t interfere with pedestrians on the sidewalks or vehicles using the street or alley.
Please ensure that all trees, shrubs, or bushes on your property are maintained in the following manner:
Any trees, shrubs or bushes along a public street or alley need to be trimmed back at least two (2) feet from the edge of the alley to ensure vehicles can pass by without touching the branches or leaves.
Any trees, shrubs, or bushes along a public alley or street need to be trimmed up to a minimum height of fifteen (15) feet to allow the passage of larger vehicles and recreational vehicles and trailers.
Any trees, shrubs, or hedges, along a public sidewalk need to be trimmed back at least one (1) foot from the edge of the sidewalk and at least eight (8) feet above the sidewalk to allow pedestrian traffic to walk past without the branches interfering with them alongside or above the sidewalk.
The Town of Innisfail encourages property owners to prune from October to March. Elm trees must only be pruned from October 1 to March 31. Trimmed elm branches must be immediately disposed of to reduce the risk of attracting beetles that carry Dutch Elm Disease.
