The Town of Innisfail partnered with the Rotary Club of Innisfail to implement and conduct improvements to the Napoleon Lake Trail. To showcase the enhanced trail, a public ribbon cutting ceremony and free barbecue will be held at Centennial Park cookhouse on Thursday, September 14 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
Improvements to the Trail include:
• Enhanced perimeter pathways by widening old trail sections
• Installed two (2) drainage culverts to prevent trail washout
• Connected existing asphalt trails at the southwest viewing platform
• Constructed two (2) wooden viewing platforms
• Constructed a boardwalk leading to the viewing platforms at the lake’s southwest and northwest corners
• Installed new benches and receptacle bins
Recognizing the commitment and support of the Innisfail Rotary Club, the trail has been renamed the Napoleon Lake Rotary Trail. During the ceremony, the Rotary Club will be presented with a “Trail Hero” Certificate awarded on behalf of the Alberta TrailNet and the Government of Alberta. In attendance will be Mayor Brian Spiller, Council members and Town Directors, and representatives of the Innisfail Rotary Club.
The public and media are invited to attend this event and enjoy a barbecued hotdog, hear delegates speak, witness the ribbon cutting, ask questions and take a short hike through the beautiful trail system. For public inquiries please contact Janice Jones, Community Services Marketing & Administration Coordinator at 403-227-3376 ext. 211.
“The shared project cost is approximately $92,000. The Rotary Club raised two thirds of the cost through grants and fundraising efforts. The Town contributed one third of the project cost from its capital budget...Our parks department is committed to provide ongoing maintenance and upkeep to ensure the trail remains in good condition for future use and enjoyment. We want to see our citizens enjoy this nature trail for years to come.” - Henry Wong, Community Services Director
