Innisfail Town Council is moving ahead with efforts to better understand local housing needs, on Monday adopting the 2017 Town of Innisfail Housing Discussion report.
The report, by Parkland Community Planning Services and the Town, was compiled to create and foster discussions surrounding housing priorities and opportunities in Innisfail. Going forward, it will assist council in the development of a strategic housing policy, and help guide development in the community.
“The report provides an excellent snapshot not only of the town’s current state when it comes to housing, but also of the many opportunities that exist in that area,” said Frank Colosimo, Director of Operational Services for the Town. “It presents insightful information that’ll help greatly in the creation of future policy, and give council, administration and the development community a strong indication of the types of housing that should be pursued.”
The report was presented twice for council’s consideration while being compiled. Its content was gleaned from federal census reports, a recent provincial affordable housing strategy, and conversations with local developers and other stakeholders familiar with local housing. It also identifies potential next steps toward the future development of strategic plans and priorities as they relate to housing.
The report may be viewed in its entirety here.
