The following are highlights from the May 28, 2018 regular meeting of the council:
53 Avenue & 56 Street Intersection
Council has directed administration to prepare engineering drawings and a proposal to address the drainage issues at the intersection. Options will be discussed at a future council meeting.
Cannabis Survey Results
The Cannabis Survey results – which included a total of 404 responses (via online and in print) collected from April 20 to May 15, 2018 – were presented to Council and accepted as information. Going forward, the survey results will assist council and administration in identifying and determining values, priorities and expectations for the impending legalization of cannabis. Administration will continue working through the Cannabis Legalization Project Plan, and return to council with updates where necessary to seek input/direction as needed.
Lions Club Beer Gardens at Canada Day Celebrations
Council approved the request from the Innisfail Lions Club to host a Beer Gardens from 5 p.m. – 12 a.m., as part of the Canada Day Kickoff Event on Saturday, June 30, 2018.
Alberta Chamber Executives (ACE) Conference Sponsorship Request
Council approved a $1,000 ‘Silver’ sponsorship contribution to the 2018 Alberta Chamber Executives (ACE) Conference to be held in Innisfail July 11-13 by foregoing the rental rates for the LLC, with funding to come from the 2018 Contingency. Attracting anywhere between 40 – 60 Chamber managers from all across the province, a vast majority of these to stay in Innisfail for the event.
Transportation Review Committee - Handivan Service
Administration was authorized by Council to begin the process of replacing the Town’s current handivan, whose deteriorating state in recent months has seen it being grounded more and more often — and for increasing periods of time. The lease of a temporary, more reliable handivan to operate in the interim was also approved, at a rate of $2,500 per month. The rental unit will be utilized by the Town for up to three months, or until the permanent replacement has arrived.
