The following are highlights from the July 9, 2018 regular meeting of council:

Delegation – 53 Avenue Close

A delegation comprising two residents of 53 Avenue Close expressed concern with the current condition of pavement in the close. A request was made for an assessment and repairs to be considered as part of forthcoming budget deliberations.

Sign Approval

Council approved the continuation of a sign permit allowing the placement of a 4’x8’ advertising sign at the corner of 50 Street and 42 Avenue until Sept. 30, 2018. The Town’s Sign Policy (2016-002) permits the Development Officer to issue approval of no more than 30 days.

Subdivision Application – Central Business

Council recommended approval of the subdivision of three lots in order to create two commercial parcels. The parcels, on 49 Street, will remain designated Central Business District (CB).

Subdivision Application – Residential Single Family

Council recommended approval of the subdivision of two lots in order to create two residential parcels each on separate titles. The parcels, on 50 Avenue, will remain designated Residential Single Family District (R-1C).

Land Use Consultation

Council directed administration to consult with stakeholders regarding zoning south of 50 Street between 48 Avenue and 49 Avenue. Administration noted that existing zoning is inconsistent with the current use and future land use indicated within the Town’s Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan.

Asset Management Policy

Council approved Asset Management Policy 2018-006 as presented. The policy, according to administration, “represents a holistic view of asset management, outlines key roles and responsibilities of council and staff, and articulates the principles supporting the policy and subsequent plan.”

Asset Management Grant

Council authorized administration to apply for grant funding through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Municipal Asset Management Program. The program covers up to 80 per cent of total eligible project costs (to a maximum of $50,000).

Letter of Support

Council approved a letter of support to the Seniors Drop-In Society authorizing its application for funding through the New Horizons for Seniors federal grant program.
