The following are highlights from the Feb. 11 regular meeting of council.

Special Meeting

Council approved that the Feb. 19 Agenda & Priorities Committee meeting be held as a special council meeting. A proposal to submit a grant application through the Community Generation Capacity Building Program will be presented for council’s review and potential approval at that time.

Recycling Research
In followup to discussions during the Feb. 4 Agenda & Priorities Committee meeting, council directed administration to research glass recycling markets and explore the potential of implementing a glass recycling program in Innisfail. A report on the matter will be presented back to council in March.

Sign Policy
Council gave first reading to a proposed bylaw amendment and approved a policy to clarify existing regulations with respect to portable and temporary signs on both private and public lands. A public hearing for the proposed bylaw will be held March 11 at 6 p.m.

Funding Reallocation
Council approved the application of Building Canada grant funding toward the 61 Avenue & 37 Street Reconstruction Project. Grant funding in the amount of $490,000 — deemed ineligible for its original intended purpose — was found suitable for potential reallocation toward the project.

Contract Award
Council accepted for information a report on a request for proposals recently issued to determine the needs of recreation, leisure and cultural services and amenities in Innisfail. Administration advised that a proposal from RC Strategies+PERC had been accepted for an amount of $53,235.
