From the Innisfail Province, Jan. 19, 2016:

Town council has given the green light for the reconstruction of 1,400 metres of the northeast trunk main, one of the municipality’s three main sanitary sewer lines.

The project will start this year and is expected to take 12 weeks to complete. The cost will be about $2 million. The majority of the price tag will be funded through a combination of provincial Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI) funds, a Build Canada grant and town reserves.

From the Innisfail Province, Jan. 19, 2016:

A proposed new Off-site Levy Bylaw has been presented to council, an initiative designed to bring in more funds to pay for future development infrastructure without burdening ratepayers with higher taxes.

While the proposed updating of the bylaw aims to set higher rates that will reduce the risk of shortfalls, its intent is also to be more in line with other Central Alberta communities the same size.

The average homeowner in Innisfail will see an increase of about three per cent in their utility bills this year.

On Jan. 11 town council passed this year’s Utility Bylaw, which set the rates for utilities for local residents, including water, wastewater, garbage and recycling.

A quarter-century dream to develop the west and north sides of Napoleon Lake has taken a big step towards reality, despite concerns from nearby residents the 28-acre project could adversely impact its pristine natural integrity.

But the developer, who has owned the property since 1988, insists the integrity of the lake will be vigorously protected as it’s an essential component of the planned residential subdivision.
