From the Innisfail Province, Dec. 22, 2015:

There will not be a residential tax rate increase in 2016.

At its regular meeting on Dec. 14, Innisfail town council was presented with the 2016 town budget, an administration report that outlined a $21,346,796 operating budget – more than $2 million more than what was called for in 2015 and a $5,960,642 capital budget, more than $200,000 over last year.

Despite the poor economy during the holiday season Innisfailians continued to show their generosity last Saturday -- a record-setting day of giving at the 20th annual Charity Check Stop.

Hundreds dropped off food, clothing, toys and cash on Dec. 12 during the Charity Check Stop, an event that was created two decades ago by former local Mountie Const. Woody Woodfine.

Hundreds of Innisfail and area residents, families and schoolchildren -- inspired by freshly fallen snow -- enthusiastically came out last week to welcome the CP Holiday Train.

The CP Holiday Train made a stop in Innisfail for a second consecutive year on Dec. 9.
