Town Council last Monday (Jan. 25) pledged its support to the Innisfail Eagles in the team's bid to host the 2017 Allan Cup.

The Kenora Thistles of Ontario recently forfeited their rights to host the 2017 men's AAA national hockey championships, resulting in the potential for the tournament to come to Innisfail. Hockey Alberta recently presented the opportunity for one of the Chinook Hockey League's four Alberta teams to act as hosts.

The Town of Innisfail will be removing 38 Schubert Chokecherries from the Memorial Tree Park (located west of the Innisfail Cemetery). The Chokecherries are severely infected with Black Knot Fungus.

From the Innisfail Province, Jan. 19, 2016:

The Innisfail Curling Rink is in good health.

At town council’s regular meeting on Jan. 11, an administration report stated a life cycle assessment of the facility that was completed last November determined the facility was found to be in “fair/good condition”, and that immediately needed repairs were minor. The assessment went on to say that significant future repairs required for the curling rink, including ones for roof shingles, could be held off for several years.
