VIA THE INNISFAIL PROVINCE, April 21, 2015: Town council has decided to cut its previously announced property tax increase in half.

Last December, council voted in favour of a two per cent tax hike for 2015, an increase that would have brought an additional $144,000 into town coffers. But at council’s regular meeting on April 13 a compromise to cut the tax increase to one per cent was reached, and the town will make do with $72,000 in additional tax revenues. The average residential home assessed at $363,304 will now be taxed an extra $70.19, instead of the $90 it would have with a two per cent increase.
