Sports Field Tournament Building
A Sports Field Tournament Building was identified as a priority during 2016 budget deliberations, and funding was allocated toward design and construction drawings. In September 2016, Council gave Administration approval to proceed with these drawings, which were based on a site between the ball diamonds in Rotary Ann Park.
Council, during a strategic planning session in late 2015, identified enhanced wayfinding signage as a priority for the town. Funds were subsequently allocated in the 2016 Budget toward the development of such a program.
The project was awarded to Bond Creative of Calgary, and involved determining sign locations, esthetics and content. An advisory committee consisting of three councillors and three members of the Innisfail and District Chamber of Commerce provided input.

Seniors Needs Assessment
In September 2016, the Town’s Community Services department retained Linda Yargeau as a consultant to develop, implement and facilitate a Seniors Needs Assessment in Innisfail. The purpose of the assessment was to identify existing assets (people, places and services) and potential concerns to better understand what might be done to prepare the community to help its seniors to ‘age in place’.
The objectives of the assessment included, but were not limited to:
Arena Brine Chiller Replacement
In October 2016, a brine chiller vessel failed at the Innisfail Arena, forcing the immediate shutdown of the Arena’s ‘red’ ice surface. Council and Administration sought a temporary fix as quickly as possible, and activity on the ice surface was temporarily restored within several weeks.
At the same time, a request for proposals for the chiller’s permanent replacement was sent out, and by the Dec. 16 deadline, four submissions had been received. Council on Jan. 23 agreed to award the project to Startec Refrigeration Services of Calgary for $161,308.17.
