Council Highlights – February 22, 2021

 The following are highlights from the February 22, 2021 Regular Meeting of Council.

 

Delegation – Staff Sergeant Chris Matechuk, Innisfail RCMP

Innisfail RCMP Staff Sergeant Chris Matechuk provided Council with an update on current crime statistics for the town. Staff Sgt. Matechuk also highlighted some recent crime-related occurrences in the community.

 

Council Committee Appointments

Due to recent changes in Council circumstances, a number of vacancies exist on current Committees of Council. After reviewing available positions at the Feb. 16 Agendas & Priorities Meeting, Council approved new committee appointments as presented.

 

New Cemetery Bylaw 1647-2021

At the Jan. 25 Regular Meeting of Council, Administration presented an updated Town of Innisfail Cemetery Bylaw. The bylaw received first reading. After making the new bylaw available to the public through Town communications channels over the past weeks, Administration presented the bylaw for second and third readings on Feb. 22. Council gave the required readings and approved the updated bylaw as presented.

 

Heliport Update and Discussion 

Administration presented Council with a review of previous actions taken associated with surrendering operations at the Town’s Heliport. Administration also provided Council with an overview of estimated costs and required actions to restore the current Heliport to operational status. After reviewing the information, Council moved to agree to redevelopment of the current Heliport site in principle, directing Administration to draft the required development documents and advance the development of a facility operations manual.

 

2020 Innisfail Community Award Winners Presentation

Earlier this month, the winners of the 2020 Innisfail Community Awards were chosen. Three of the seven award winners were acknowledged at the Feb. 22 meeting, including Devin Cooper (Community Arts & Culture Award), Jon Weddell (Coach Recognition Award), and the Innisfail Atom B Flyers (Team of the Year). The remaining award winners will be acknowledged at the March 8 Regular Meeting of Council.

 

Deputy Mayor Don Harrison

Councillor Don Harrison was officially sworn in as deputy mayor.
