The following are highlights from the August 9, 2021 Regular Meeting of Council.
Council Remuneration Committee Recommendations
The Council Remuneration Committee, comprised of members from the community who are not connected with Council or Administration and are not Town employees, met twice in July to evaluate the remuneration currently received by members of Town Council. The committee recommended a 5% increase to the honorarium amount. The committee also made recommendations regarding per diem rates, travel expenses, and benefits, along with a recommended amendment to the Council Remuneration & Benefits Policy. After discussion, Council approved a motion to accept the committee’s recommendations as presented.
61 Avenue Special Tax Bylaw Follow-up Report
Following discussion that took place at the July 26, 2021 Regular Meeting of Council, Administration engaged in discussions with representatives of business owner affected by Special Tax Bylaw 1667-2021. On Monday, Administration updated Council on those discussions and presented a recommendation to proceed with amendments to the existing bylaw. Council approved a motion directing Administration to draft an amending bylaw to be presented at the August 23, 2021 Regular Meeting of Council.
Potential Increase in RCMP Policing Costs
Town Administration has been made aware of a potential increase in the cost of RCMP policing services arising from recent negotiations between the Government of Canada and the National Police Federation on behalf of RCMP members. Potential costs could include retroactive payments for services provided in previous years. On August 9, Council approved a motion to have Administration write a letter to the Honorable Bill Blair, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness of Canada, voicing concern over the increased cost and the impact it may have on the community.
Daines Ranch Professional Rodeo – Funding Request
Administration received a request for financial support from the Daines Ranch Professional Rodeo; Council approved a motion providing $2,500 to support the event.
Cerebral Palsy Day – October 6, 2021
Following a request, Council supported a motion to declare October 6, 2021 as World Cerebral Palsy Day.
Rotary Club of Innisfail Golf Tournament Sponsorship
Council, after brief discussion, committed to supporting the Rotary Club of Innisfail’s annual golf tournament through hole sponsorship and participation in the event.
