The following are highlights from the Monday, March 28, 2022 Regular Meeting of Council.
Retired Members of Town Council – Former Mayor Jim Romane, Former Councillor Danny Rieberger
At the March 28 meeting, Council took time to recognize the contributions of former members of Town Council Jim Romane and Danny Rieberger. Romane and Rieberger attended the March 28 Meeting and each was given a gift from Council in recognition of their service.
2021 Community Awards
For the second year in a row, Council acknowledged the winners of the 2021 Community Awards at a Regular Meeting of Council. Award recipients accepted trophies commemorating their achievements and received congratulations from Town Staff, Council, and members of the gallery. Highlights will be shared with the community in the upcoming weeks.
Energy Management Projects
In 2021, the Town worked with Alberta Municipalities (AM) and Trane Technologies to complete an investment-grade audit of Town facilities. The audit was to be integrated into a larger capital project. Through an administrative review of the results, it has been determined that the Town should pursue various energy conservation measures independently. On March 28, Council carried a motion to approve payment of $38,000 for the investment grade audit along with a structural engineering investigation from the 2022 Capital Budget.
Event Stage/Trailer Purchase and Management
Town Council allocated $25,000 in the 2022 Operating Budget for the procurement of a mobile stage/trailer. Administration has done preliminary research on options and costs and now requires further direction from Council to help narrow the scope of the project. After discussion regarding anticipated outcomes, Council carried a motion directing Administration to explore options for the procurement and management of a mobile stage.
Special Tax Bylaws
At the March 14 Council meeting, Bylaws 1681-2022 and 1682-2022 received the first two of three required readings. On March 28, after discussion, Council carried a motion to give the 61 Avenue Special Tax Bylaw #1681-2022 and the 37 Street Special Tax Bylaw #1682-2022 third and final reading.
Councillor Harrison – Leave of Absence
As noted in the Municipal Government Act, it is prudent for Councillors to give formal notice for extended absences. On Monday, Council carried a motion to recognize and approve Councillor Don Harrison’s request for an absence from April 16 to May 9, excusing him from Council duties during that time.
