Council Highlights – August 9, 2022

Aug 10, 2022 | 0 comments

The following are highlights from the Monday, July 11, 2022 Regular Meeting of Council

CAO Report – Varme ‘Energy to Waste’ Public Presentation

Earlier this year, Innisfail Town Council was presented with an opportunity to establish a waste to energy facility in Innisfail. At the August 9 meeting, Town CAO Todd Becker informed Council that the Town will now invite members of the community to learn about the ‘waste to energy’ process through a public event set for August 25. Council accepted this report as information.

Realtor, Developer, and Landowner Engagement Event

At the April 11, 2022 meeting, Council directed Administration to organize an engagement event for realtors, developers, and landowner from the region. At the August 9 meeting, Administration presented a proposed Realtor/Developer/Landowner Engagement Event Scope. Council approved the scope as presented.

Federal Election Boundary Changes – Notice of Representation

The federal government has proposed changes for federal electoral districts across Canada. Those wishing to share their input through a series of public hearings must send a notice of representation by August 15. Council had previously expressed an interest in providing formal feedback on the proposed boundary changes. At the August 9 meeting, after brief discussion about their collective concerns, Council came to a consensus to advocate for keeping the town in a district with its trading partners and neighbouring municipalities.

4815 – 50 Street Property Marketing

Administration previously presented Council with a public request to purchase Town-owned land at 4815 – 50th Street. Administration received an appraisal on the property in early July of this year, and then contacted the interested individual but has received no response. With a clear idea of market value, Council passed a motion at the August 9 meeting directing Administration to market the property at 4815 – 50th Street with a list price of $49,900.00.

Letter of Support –Specialty Crop Insurance Coverage

Noting the town’s close ties to the agricultural community, Mayor Jean Barclay presented a motion for the Town to provide a letter of support to local growers advocating the inclusion of specialty crops in hail insurance and bad-weather programs. Council passed the motion as presented.

Innisfail Town Council strives to maintain a level of openness with its residents. The highlights only briefly touch upon the exchanges and decisions reached during the most recent Council meeting.
