The Town of Innisfail must comply with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP Act) when collecting and/or disclosing information. The FOIP Act aims to strike a balance between the public’s right to know and the individual’s right to privacy in regards to information held by the Town.
Under the FOIP Act, any person has the right to request information that is in the custody and control of the Town of Innisfail, including their own personal information. Individuals may also request a correction of their personal information if it is inexact, ambiguous or incomplete.
Request General Information

The Town of Innisfail’s FOIP coordinator will help determine if the records(s) you wish to access are routinely available to the public, or if you need to submit a formal FOIP request.  There is a $25 fee for general FOIP requests.

To request general information fill out a Request to Access Information Form  or write your request in a letter.

When completing the form check the box for “General Information”. If you are writing a letter be sure to specify your request is for general information.

  • Describe the information or records you want, with as much detail as possible.
  • Include specific detail so the right records can be retrieved.
  • Submit your request and the $25 fee to the Town of Innisfail FOIP Coordinator.

Your request will not be started until fee is received.

The Town of Innisfail must respond within 30 calendar days of a receiving your request to correct personal information.

Additional fees:

Requests involving large volumes of information or extensive search for records may result in additional fees.  These fees typically are for copying, locating, producing, handling and shipping records. In these cases you will be provided with a fee estimate prior to processing the request. All fees are determined by the FOIP Act and Regulations. Records are provided when the fees are paid in full.

Request Your Own Personal Information
A request for personal information is a written request for records of a personal nature about you. There is no fee to request personal information.

To make a FOIP request, fill out a Request to Access Information Form OR write your request in a letter.

  1. If using the form check the box for “personal information” If you are writing a letter be sure to specify your request is for personal information.
    • Describe the information or records you want, in as much detail as possible.  Include enough detail so the right records can be found like file numbers, full legal names, aliases, maiden names, identifiers and identification numbers, dates of birth, dates or date ranges, etc.
  2. Submit your request the Town of Innisfail FOIP Coordinator.
  3. You may be asked to provide proof of identity.

The Town of Innisfail must respond within 30 calendar days of a receiving your request to correct personal information.


Requesting the Personal Information of Someone Else

If you request personal information on behalf of another person you must provide proof of your authority to act on their behalf.

To access the personal information that belongs to your minor child/children, you may be asked provide proof you have a right to access it. Minor children have a right to have their own personal information protected.

If the request is made on behalf of another individual you must complete the Authorization of Representative Form.

 

Correct Personal Information

To request a correction to your personal information you must complete a written submitting explaining the Town of Innisfail records containing an error or omission. There is no fee to correct personal information.

  1. Complete your  request in a letter to the Town of Innisfail FOIP Coordinator:
    • Describe the information you want changed and on what records the information appears.
    • Include enough detail so the right records can be found.
  2. Send your request to the Town of Innisfail.

The Town of Innisfail must respond within 30 calendar days of a receiving your request to correct personal information.
