Apr 29, 2023 | 0 comments

Ron King has been a pillar of Innisfail for decades. His contributions as a volunteer are known throughout our town. He takes pride in helping Innisfail be its best. He is a leader and a role model of how to give back to your town. He is quoted as saying “This is our community; we all need to pitch in and take responsibility”. Those are words that he lives by.

His volunteer contributions to the Innisfail Town Theater stretch back 30 years. Not only as an actor but also as a supporting volunteer.

He has been a board member of the Innisfail Day Home Society for over 15 years. He currently serves as chair of their advisory board. This is an important organization for families in Innisfail and area – they help with provide solutions for education and childcare close to home. He was a force behind the Innisfail Band Parents Association for 20+ years. The association helped fundraise for many trips that the band took during that time to promote a love of music and represent Innisfail.

He has served on many Towns of Innisfail Committees – currently, he sits on the FCSS board, Age-Friendly, Municipal Planning Commission and Municipal Development Plan Advisory Committee.

He joined the Innisfail Legion as an ordinary member after having served in the Army Reserves. He is a 50-year member of the Legion. As part of the Innisfail Legion; he has served as an executive member, a member of the colour party and even the parade commander for Remembrance Day.

He has volunteered many hours to the local Army Cadet Corps – serving as both a leader and an instructor.

You may not know it but he even volunteered as Santa Claus at the Charity Check stop that has been hosted by the RCMP for years and years.

He has been an active member of our community for over 40 years and there doesn’t seem to be any slowing him down. He takes the role of volunteer very seriously and is a role model for how to give selflessly with the incredible gift of one’s time, knowledge and kindness. It is an honour and a privilege to recognize Ron King with the Citizen of the Year Award
