Community Awards – Community Arts & Culture

Apr 14, 2022 | 0 comments

Congratulations to Dale Dunham for receiving the Community Arts and Culture Award for 2021!

Someone who embodies the term “community builder” Dale works tirelessly to create, build and innovate community initiatives. He is someone who not only has the vision for something new and exciting ; he jumps into a project with both feet and inspires other to do the same.

The business that he and his partner own “The Coffee Cottage” has grown from a local favourite restaurant to a hive of activity and a reflection of Innisfail. A space that is welcoming and that gives people a feeling of belonging. It has served as a family room, a games space, and an art gallery among many other roles. It featured profiles from the Real Talk for Men Campaign in 2021 and lately has been a gallery space for Artists of Aspen.

Dale is a leader in the Community and helps Innisfailians tap into their creativity. He is a leader behind the Innisfail Pride Festival, the Lantern Festival, and the Festival of Trees. Each was new-for-2021 and each offered something that was inspiring, engaging, and beautiful.

They not only showcased how important arts and culture are in our community – they gave back to Innisfail and inspired others to give back and put their own creativity forward. These are events that show sides of our town that wouldn’t always be given the limelight otherwise.

The efforts also showed significant perseverance – these events were created at a time when it was particularly difficult to plan and host events, let alone create new ones. A time when they were very needed, when people were looking for connection and ways to be part of their community.

It should also be noted that he is an incredible contributor to our community as a volunteer. His work with the Welcoming and Inclusive Community Committee, Anti-Bullying initiatives and Town Council all work to make life easier for people who need it and add to the culture in Innisfail. He helps others so that they can contribute in their own way.
