The following are highlights from the April 23 regular meeting of council.
Delegations
Councillor Lawrence Lee from the City of Red Deer made a brief presentation providing an overview of the work done by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. Councillor Lee is a director with the FCM.
Daniel Eaton, Director of Project Development with Elemental Energy, gave an update on the proposed Innisfail Solar Project. Based on Council direction, and as part of the on-going negotiations with Innisfail Solar Corp and purchaser Elemental Energy, the Town has updated the lease terms to support the long-term viability of the project.
Strategic Plan Update
Town CAO Todd Becker provided Council with a first-quarter update of the Town’s strategic plan. Council approved the update as information.
Downtown Zoning
Council gave first reading to a proposed bylaw amendment to an area south of 50 Street between 46 and 49 Avenues. The amendment would allow for a greater mix of land use within the identified area. A public hearing will take place at the Monday, May 27, 2019 regular Council meeting.
Programmable Logic Control
Council approved the upgrade of the Town’s reservoir system by adding improved control units to better regulate the town’s water supply levels. The contract for the project was awarded to AECOM with a bid of $92,165.
Safety Codes Services Agreement
Council approved a two-year extension to the Safety Codes Service Agreement with IJD Inspections.
Fire Hall Information Board
Council approved the installation of an information board to be set up on the west-facing exterior wall of the Innisfail Fire Hall.
Fire & Protective Services Update
A first-quarter update was provided by Innisfail Fire & Protective Services to track and compare occurrences from year to year. Council will receive future reports throughout the year, although not at regular intervals.
