The following are highlights from the February 10, 2020 regular meeting of council.
Bylaw 1470-A66 to amend the Land Use Bylaw – Discretionary Retail Use in an Established Industrial District
Earlier this year, an application was made to amend the Land Use Bylaw (LUB) to allow for a retail operation as a discretionary use in a district zoned as industrial. Administration prepared the proposed bylaw with a detailed report including a comparison of how retail uses are addressed in other area communities. A public hearing was held on Monday night. After no input was received from the public, Council engaged in deliberations. The amendment was then given second and third readings and was passed as presented.
Request for Decision – 13 Ways & Town of Innisfail 2020 Economic Growth Action Recommendations
In 2019, Town administration contracted consultants from 13 Ways Inc. to lead an engagement session with community stakeholders. The purpose of this meeting was to gauge the group’s economic development aspirations and expectations for the town. Reflecting the sentiments expressed by contributors, administration proposed that the Town engage 13 Ways Inc. to develop a thorough strategic plan to move the Town’s marketing efforts forward. The proposed plan includes tangibles such as a new website and a tactical plan to guide the Town in its marketing activities. On Monday, Council authorized administration to enter into an agreement with 13 Ways Inc. for the proposed work.
