The following are highlights from the Tuesday, January 3, 2023 Regular Meeting of Town Council.
Fortis Franchise Fee Rate
As part of the 2022 budget, Council approved raising Fortis franchise fees from 15% to 17%. During 2023 budget deliberations, Administration discovered the increase had not been completed in 2022. As a result, approximately $20,000 less than was previously anticipated will be reflected in the 2022 year-end surplus. Administration is working with Fortis to rectify the situation. At the Tuesday, January 3, 2023 meeting, Administration provided a report to Council with a suggested motion to increase the Fortis franchise fee to 17% for 2023. After discussion, Council approved a motion seeking more information and tabling the item until the Monday, Jan. 9 Regular Meeting of Council.
