The following are highlights from the Monday, January 9, 2023 Regular Meeting of Town Council.
2023 Fortis Franchise Fee Rate
Council had previously approved raising Fortis franchise fees from 15% to 17% in 2022. Administration later discovered that the increase had not been completed in 2022 and is working with Fortis to rectify the situation. At the Monday, January 9, 2023 meeting, Administration provided a report to Council with a suggested motion to increase the Fortis franchise fee. Dave Hunka, a representative from Fortis, also presented and answered Council’s questions. After discussion, Council carried a motion to approve the Fortis Franchise Fee increase to 17%.
PACE Transit Service Delivery
The Town’s current contract for PACE vehicle operations ends in mid-April, meaning the Town will take responsibility for operating the service. On Monday, January 9, 2023, Administration presented Council with a report outlining options for delivering the service. Options include managing the service internally or contracting the service to Prairie Bus Lines, which has expressed interest in fulfilling the contract. Council carried a motion to invite Southland/Prairie Bus Lines to a future meeting and then carried a motion accepting the report as information.
