The following are highlights from the Monday, July 11, 2022 Regular Meeting of Council
Centennial Park Policing, Noise Concerns
On July 25, Council engaged in a conversation regarding on going noise issues at Centennial Park. After discussion, Council carried a motion directing Administration to prepare a detailed report outlining the cost and scope of installing a gate at the park. This report will be presented at a future meeting.
South Red Deer Wastewater Commission Lease
Administration has worked with the South Red Deer Wastewater Commission (SRDRWC) to finalize details of an emergency surge pond for the regional wastewater system. The SRDRWC has agreed to reimburse the Town $18,750 per acre for any land reclamation and improvement costs previously incurred, payable once the lease agreement is in place. On Monday, Council carried a recommended motion to approve the Emergency Surge Pond lease agreement with the SRDRWC effective July 1, 2022.
Policy Repeals
Administration continues to review and update Town policies as needed and identified several policies that are no longer relevant. On July 25, Council carried several motions repealing a total of 10 separate policies.
Post-Secondary Scholarship Policy 2022-002
During budget deliberations held in late 2021, Council requested the implementation of a post-secondary scholarship. Council approved $2,500 as part of the Town’s 2022 operating budget for this purpose. On July 25, Council approved the Town’s Post-Secondary Scholarship Award Policy with amendments. More information on the scholarships will be made available to the public in the next few weeks.
SW Industrial Park Subdivision Pricing
Earlier this year, the Town began the process of selling land in the southwest industrial area at an introductory price of $160,00 per acre. Administration requested an extension of the introductory sale price through October 31, 2022, at the July 25 meeting. Council carried the recommended motion.
Eagles Ice Logo
The Innisfail Eagles Hockey Club has requested the installation of their club logo at centre ice of the Innisfail Arena’s blue surface. The Town hasn’t previously offered ‘in ice’ advertising but does acknowledge it as a future revenue opportunity. Administration recommended that the spot be offered at a rate of $2000 per season. Other user groups with current in-ice recognition have been consulted and have declined the opportunity to advertise in the centre-ice spot. As such, on July 25 Council approved a sponsorship agreement regarding the installation of the Eagle’s logo.
August 8 Council Meeting – Date Change
Due to a conflicting event, Council carried a motion change the date of the Monday August 8 Regular Meeting of Council. The meeting will now take place on Tuesday, August 9 at 3:00 p.m.
