The following are highlights from the June 28, 2021 Regular Meeting of Council.
Deputy Mayor Bates sworn in
Councillor Gavin Bates was sworn in as Deputy Mayor and will serve in the role for the months of July, August, September, and October.
CAO Update – COVID-19
In an update to Council, CAO Todd Becker reported that, in alignment with the schedule of updates from the provincial Chief Medical Officer of Health, the Town’s Emergency Coordination Centre will no longer meet on a regular schedule but will rather meet on an ‘as-needed’ basis.
Council also repealed the Town’s mask-use policy, effective July 1, 2021. The policy oversees mask use by Town staff in the workplace and by the public when using Town facilities.
Request for Decision – 37 Street reconstruction
The Town, after completing a formal tender process, received two bids on the proposed 37 Street reconstruction project. Council awarded the project awarded to Central City Asphalt which submitted a bid of $1,033,207.98. The project will be funded through the Building Canada Grant and the Utility Stabilization Reserve.
Approval of land sale
Council approved the sale of a Town-owned parcel of land. The parcel was part of the land included in the environmental site remediation of the former wastewater treatment and waste transfer station sites. The sale price was $830,000.
