The following are highlights from the May 11, 2020 regular meeting of council.
Covid-19 Incident Commander Report
CAO Todd Becker, incident commander of the Town’s COVID-19 Emergency Coordination Centre, provided Council with an update on the Town’s current service levels and highlighted three focus areas to adopt as priorities. These three areas are:
• Economic Development Recovery and Relaunch;
• Town Operations and Service Delivery, and;
• Community and Social Services.
Council accepted the report as information and approved the three focus priority areas. Town administration will now define clear goals and develop and a more detailed strategy to facilitate the delivery of associated objectives.
Financial Audit conducted by BDO Canada Ltd.
The Town employed the firm of BDO Canada Ltd. to conduct the annual audit of the Town’s financial statements; representatives from the company presented the 2019 Audited Financial Statements and answered Council’s questions. Council approved the statements as presented, noting that the Town’s solid fiscal practices have placed the community in a stable financial position.
Ice Resurface Machine Purchase
The Town’s current ice resurface machine had previously been slated for replacement in 2019. Earlier this year, two proposals were received through the public RFP process. After reviewing the submissions, Town staff recommended the purchase of an Olympia Millennium-E unit, an electric-powered machine, from Big Hill Services & Arena Supplies Ltd. Council approved a motion to purchase the machine at a cost of $163,963 plus GST.
CP Rail Crossing Safety Assessment and Whistle Cessation Review
After the RFP process, administration presented Council with the recommendation to award work on the CP Rail Crossing Safety Assessment and Whistle Cessation Review to WATT Consulting Group at a cost of $26,000. Council approved the recommended action.
