Council Highlights – May 9, 2022

The following are highlights from the Monday, May 9, 2022 Regular Meeting of Council.


CAO Report – Social Procurement Presentation

As part of his report to Council, CAO Todd Becker recommended a presentation to Council by a social procurement specialist be scheduled for a future Agenda & Priorities Meeting. Council approved the CAO report as presented and approved a second motion directing Administration to bring forward a consultant to speak about the social procurement philosophy.

Aquatic Recreation Complex Architect Selection

After receiving submissions through a formal process, Administration completed an evaluation of suitable applicants to serve as architect for a potential Town recreation facility. At the May 9 meeting, Council reviewed the results of this evaluation and carried a motion to award the Innisfail Recreation/Aquatic Centre architect consulting contract to Group2 Architecture.

Town of Innisfail – Energy Policy 2022-05

At the May 2, Agenda & Priorities Committee meeting, Council reviewed a draft Energy Policy intended to support the Town’s energy-usage commitments. On May 9, Council approves a motion to adopt the Town’s Energy Policy.

Town/Chamber of Commerce – Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

The lnnisfail Community Economic Development Advisory Committee recommended that Council approve in principle an (MOU) between the lnnisfail & District Chamber of Commerce and the Town of lnnisfail, intended to increase collaboration, help build a healthy partnership, and strengthen communication. At the May 9 meeting, after discussion, Council approved in principle the presented MOU and directed Administration to continue work with the Chamber until the document is finalized.

Energy Futures Lab, 2023 Roadshow

The Energy Futures Lab is looking for a host community for its 2023 event. The Community Economic Development Committee has recommended that Council consider acting as a host community. On May 9, Council approved a motion directing Administration to submit a formal Expression of Interest to host the 2023 event.  

SW Industrial Park Subdivision – Sales and Marketing

After working to prepare the former lagoon lands for public sale, the Town is now ready to begin development. On May 9, Council approved a recommended motion to set the introductory price of land for sale within the southwest industrial area at $160,000/acre until July 29, 2022. Council then approved a second motion directing Administration to submit a subdivision application for the creation of industrial parcels.

Community Standards Bylaw 1683-2022

At a previous meeting, a draft of an updated Community Standards Bylaw was presented to Council for review and discussion. The bylaw regulates nuisances, public disturbances, and neighbourhood livability issues. At the May 9 meeting, Council reviewed the updated draft and carried motions unanimously, giving the bylaw its three required readings.

Declaration – World Family Doctor Day, May 19, 2022

After receiving a request from the Alberta College of Family Physicians, Council carried a motion acknowledging May 19 as World Family Doctor Day in Innisfail.

Declaration – Seniors’ Week, June 6-12, 2022

After receiving a request from the Government of Alberta, Council carried a motion acknowledging June 6-12, as Seniors’ Week in Innisfail.
