Council Highlights – November 14, 2022

The following are highlights from the Monday, November 14, 2022 Regular Meeting of Town Council.


Delegation – Innisfail Family Day Home Society

Reshann Butts, a representative from the Innisfail Family Day Home Society, informed Council that May 2023 marks the Innisfail Day Home Society’s 40th anniversary and would like to use the occasion to honour the hard work of day-home educators. As a result, Council recognized May 15 to 19, 2023, as Innisfail and Area Early Childhood Educator Week.

CAO Report –Energy Futures Lab (EFL) Fellowship

Town CAO Todd Becker requested support from Council in seeking a fellowship with the EFL. The Town has been working with the EFL in the implementation of the Innisfail Energy Hub, and Becker’s participation as a Fellow will benefit the Town by providing learnings and potential initiatives related to energy transition. Council carried a motion to support Becker’s application.

FCSS Board Recommendations – Remaining 2022 Funding

Annually the FCSS Advisory Board reviews grant applications from local organizations to support preventative social programming within the Innisfail community. On Monday, Nov. 14, the Town’s Community and Social Services Manager, Kristen MacKenzie, presented the Board’s recommendations, which were to allocate funding to the following applicants: John Wilson Elementary School, Innisfail Middle School, Innisfail High School, St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic School, the Innisfail YES Program and the Innisfail Seniors Drop-In Society for a total disbursement amount of $16,816. Council carried the motion as presented.

Policing Support Grant (PSG) Funding Agreement

The Province of Alberta offers the PSG to municipalities to offset costs associated with policing services. The Town has received a funding agreement for the current fiscal year. On Monday, Nov. 14, Council carried a motion to authorize the Chief Elected Official to sign the Policing Support Grant Funding Agreement.

Donation – Innisfail Food Bank

After acknowledging that the Innisfail Food Bank is raising funds to pay for a commercial cooler, Council carried a motion to donate $1,300 to the Innisfail Food Bank from Council’s contingency fund.
