The following are highlights from the Tuesday, November 14, 2023 Regular Meeting of Town Council.
Council Mid-Term Priority Setting
In 2022, Council identified strategic priorities which were then laid out in the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan. Recently, Council conducted a mid-point evaluation to assess if the goals of the plan were being met. Following this review, a set of five priorities were identified as areas of focus for the next two years. These priorities are: ensuring housing diversity; meeting recreational needs; adding an economic development officer to the Town staff; sustainable asset management; and, growing the Innisfail Energy Hub. At the Nov. 14 meeting, Administration provided Council with a Mid-Term Priority Setting Document based on the mid-point evaluation. Council then carried a motion accepting the document as information.
Committee Terms of Reference Amendment
Following a mid-term review of boards and committees at the October 23, 2023 Organizational Meeting of Council, changes were proposed to the terms of reference for the Policing and Safe Community Committee and the Community Economic Development Advisory Group. On Nov. 14, Administration presented two new bylaws reflecting the changes – Bylaw 1716-2023 and Bylaw 1717-2023 – both of which received all required readings.
Council Remuneration Review Committee Recommendations
Every two years, the Town is required by policy to establish a temporary committee to review the pay and benefits received by Council. This committee has prepared recommended changes to Council’s compensation. On Nov. 14, Administration presented a proposed Council Remuneration Policy. A motion to accept the new policy was defeated, and a second motion was carried directing Administration to make further adjustments to the new policy based on Council’s conversation.
