The following are highlights from the November 9, 2020 Regular Meeting of Council.
Urban Hens Pilot Project Report
At the October 13, 2020 regular meeting, Council instructed Town Administration to prepare a report detailing the process for including a question about an urban hen pilot project in the upcoming 2021 municipal elections. Administration presented the report and identified the options available to a municipality. Council accepted this report as information and directed Administration to prepare a draft outline for an urban hen pilot project to be presented to Council early in February, 2021.
Aquatic Centre – Project Scope Change
Earlier this year, Council and Administration began the process to review options for the upgrading and modernization of the Innisfail Aquatic Centre. The Town has been working with consultants to develop a pre-design report encompassing three potential upgrades of varying magnitude. Council has now requested that a fourth upgrade option be added to include the construction of a multi-use facility. At Monday’s meeting, $14,000 in additional funds from the Town’s recreation reserve was approved to expand the scope of the pre-design report.
Bylaw 1470-A70 – Changes to Restrictions on Secondary Suites
Administration has received an application to amend the Town’s Land Use Bylaw. The proposed bylaw includes changes to the regulations that currently exist on secondary suites, specifically those within accessory buildings and in buildings on the Residential Narrow Lot District (R1N). After review, Council approved first reading and set December 14, 2020 as the date for the public hearing.
Innisfail Helipad Review
Following a public information session held on October 21, 2020, Administration presented information outlining the future options for the Innisfail Helipad. Council reviewed the information and, after discussion, moved to temporarily keep operations at the Big Bend Airport while continuing to examine all possible options, including an upgrade of the current helipad facility. Council directed Administration to prepare a report with rough estimates for all options.
