The following are highlights from the Monday, October 10, 2023 Regular Meeting of Town Council.
Delegation: Intergenerational Community Garden
Representatives from the Intergenerational Community Garden provided Council with an update on progress being made in their group. They also thanked the Town for its continued support.
Innisfail & District Chamber of Commerce: Strategic Planning
Earlier this year, the Town provided $5,000 to the Innisfail & District Chamber of Commerce to be used toward the development of a strategic plan. On October 10, 2023, the completed document was presented to Council, after which a motion was carried accepting the plan as information.
Budget Policy 2023-008
At the Oct. 3, 2023, Agenda & Priorities Meeting, Administration presented a draft of a policy that would establish principles and guidelines for the preparation of the Town’s annual Operating and Capital Budgets while ensuring the effective delivery of services to residents. At the October 10, 2023, Regular Meeting, Council carried a motion approving the bylaw as presented.
Allocation of Operating Budget Surplus Bylaw 2023-009
At the Oct. 3, 2023, Agenda & Priorities Meeting, Administration presented a draft of a policy providing guidelines for the allocation of operating budget surpluses, maintaining an adequate level of services while supporting the Town’s long term capital plan. At the October 10, 2023, Regular Meeting, Council carried a motion approving the bylaw as presented.
2024 Parkland Regional Library Budget
Through an agreement, Parkland Regional Library provides library services to the town. Each year, Parkland presents a projected budget for the upcoming year. The proposed 2024 budget contains a per capita increase from $8.75 to $9.18, reflected in an overall budget amount of $70,428.96. At the October 10, 2023, Meeting, Council approved the Parkland Regional Library 2024 Budget as presented.
2023 Housing Needs Assessment
Administration has prepared the 2023 Housing Needs Assessment, providing an overview of the current state of housing in the community. The report identified unmet housing demands and will help to shape future plans, policies, and bylaws. Council approved the report as presented.
Innisfail Town Council strives to maintain a level of openness with its residents. The highlights only briefly touch upon the exchanges and decisions reached during the most recent Council meeting.
