The following are highlights from the September 23, 2019 regular meeting of council.
Municipal Order Appeal
Owners of a property, through a formal process, appealed to Council regarding a Town order to remove two soft-sided structures in a residential area. The conditions of the use of such structures is stated in the Town’s Land Use Bylaw. Presentations were heard from the appellants and Town staff, after which Council deliberated in a closed session. Upon reconvening, Council confirmed the remedial order to remove the structures but extended the deadline for removal.
CAO Report – Residential Development Forum
Among other items in the CAO Report was the Residential Development Forum, hosted by Town staff as per Council’s direction. Attendees included real estate agents, residential developers, landowners, and Town representatives (including Council). Results of the event will be presented to Council once a report has been prepared.
Christmas Tree
Council discussed the possible placement of a downtown Christmas tree during the Christmas season. After discussion, Council directed Town staff to prepare a report with options and costs, to be presented at a later meeting.
Innisfail Arts Council Art Show
The Innisfail Arts Council has expressed interest in holding its annual arts show at the Library Learning Centre but finds the fees for the facility prohibitive. Council directed administration to engage with the group to discuss the possibility of entering into a long-term partnership agreement allowing them to use the facility at a reduced rate.
Land Use Bylaw Rezoning Application, Bylaw 1470-A65
A bylaw amendment application has been received regarding use of a parcel of public land. The amendment would see the land re-designated to facilitate the lease of the land for residential purposes. Council gave first reading of the bylaw and set Monday, October 28, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. as the date, time, and place for the public hearing.
Outdoor Washroom near Aquatic Centre
The construction of an outdoor washroom building near the Aquatic Centre was originally planned as part of the Town’s 2019 budget. Estimates came in significantly higher than originally anticipated. Council directed that the project be included for discussion as part of the 2020 budget.
