The following are highlights from the Monday, September 26, 2022 Regular Meeting of Council.
Presentation – Employment Placement & Support Services (EPSS)
Jolene Van Vliet and Natashia King of EPSS provided a report on their organization, highlighting the services that EPSS provides to its clients and to partner agencies.
Presentation – Central Alberta Economic Partnership (CAEP)
Kimberly Worthington of CAEP spoke to Council on the benefits of being a CAEP member community and emphasized the strategic focus of the organization.
Second-Quarter Financial Report
Each fiscal quarter, Administration provides Council with financial reports. On September 26, Administration provided a report for the period from January 1 to June 30, 2022, noting that year-over-year numbers remain steady, and all revenues and expenses are within the anticipated amounts for this time of year. Council approved the Town of Innisfail 2022 Second-Quarter Financial Report as presented.
Community Economic Development Group Appointments
Established in 2021, the Innisfail Community Development Advisory Group is legislated to consist of four voting members appointed by Council. Robert Bilton and Patricia Bourne were first appointed on June 14, 2021; however, their term expires October 23, 2022. Both have indicated they wish to continue with the Advisory Group and as such, on September 26, Council carried a motion appointing Robert Bilton and Patricia Bourne to the Economic Development Advisory Group for a two-year term ending October 21, 2024.
Remora Ventures Proposal
Town Administration proposed engaging Remora Ventures to provide expertise, facilitation, and actionable strategies to explore revenue generating opportunities related to development, energy, and government funding. At the September 26 meeting, Council approved a motion to retain Remora Ventures in the amount of $26,000 to be funded from the 2022 Contingency Fund.
Community Economic Development Identity Branding
The Innisfail Community Economic Development Advisory Group has been working closely with consultants to produce a strategy and tactical plan for economic development in Innisfail. The Group’s recommended approval of the Power of Place was carried at the Regular Council Meeting on March 14, 2022. In implementing the plan, the Advisory Group has reviewed and approved a CED logo and brand standard guide. On September 26, Council carried a motion to accept the Community Economic Development Brand Standards report as information.
Innisfail Town Council strives to maintain a level of openness with its residents. The highlights only briefly touch upon the exchanges and decisions reached during the most recent Council meeting.
