Council Highlights – September 28, 2020

The following are highlights from the September 28, 2020 Regular Meeting of Council.

 

Delegation – Recognition of Food Bank Volunteer

A delegation, led by Heather Taylor, recognized Carol Sim and thanked her for her efforts at the Innisfail Food Bank. Council also took the opportunity to thank Sim for her years of service to the community. Sim will be stepping back from her role with the agency.

 

Waste Reduction Week in Canada – October 19-25, 2020

Upon the recommendation of Town Administration, Council proclaimed Waste Reduction Week as part of the Town’s commitment to conserving resources, protecting the environment and educating the community. Administration has planned initiatives to encourage waste reduction.

 

Columbarium Purchase – Innisfail Cemetery

Current columbaria at the Innisfail Cemetery are reaching capacity and Administration identified the need for the purchase of a new, additional 64-niche structure. Council approved the purchase of the feature in early 2021 with funds from the cemetery reserve.

 

Park Donation & Memorial Program Policy 2020-003

Council adopted a formal Park Donation & Memorial Program Policy intended to provide direction to staff and the community. This policy will clarify roles and expectations by outlining options for the donation of items in public parks and spaces. Council adopted the policy as presented.

 

Public Space Maintenance Policy 2020-005

Council approved the proposed Public Space Maintenance Policy which replaces and consolidates a number of existing Town policies. This new policy assists Council and Administration in establishing and monitoring services levels related to green spaces, plantings and amenities by introducing a four-tier system for prioritizing maintenance service levels.

 

Parkland Regional Library Budget

Council approved the 2021 Parkland Regional Library Budget which contained no increase to the municipality per capita requisition. This means the requisition amount for 2021 will remain the same as the 2020 amount at $67,091.85. A formal request for this requisition amount will be included in 2021 budget deliberations.

 

Government of Alberta Municipal Stimulus Program

Council gave Administration direction to include the 53 Avenue infrastructure improvements and a mill & overlay project in the Town’s application for the province’s Municipal Stimulus Program. The program allocates funds to municipalities for shovel-ready projects. The deadline for the Town to apply is October 1, 2020.

 

World Cerebral Palsy Day

Council passed a motion officially declaring Tuesday, October 6, 2020 as World Cerebral Palsy Day.
