In our ongoing series of posts acknowledging our 120 years since incorporation, we’ll be sharing some significant aspects of Innisfail’s history throughout the months leading up to November 20, 2023.
Now that summer is finally here, try to imagine a cool lake with a sandy beach, surrounded by wooded hills. At the turn of the Twentieth Century, Innisfail had just such a lake. Mud Lake – which is now known as Hazelwood Lake – has been incorporated into the Innisfail Golf and Country Club, and is much smaller than it originally was back in the early 1900s.
Many people chose this area for their summer vacation. They could swim, sail, and dive.
The local amenities even included a platform which could be used as a dance floor as music was played on a gramophone.
