In our ongoing series of posts acknowledging our 120 years since incorporation, we’ll be sharing some significant aspects of Innisfail’s history throughout the months leading up to November 20, 2023.
Since September is the month for students to head back to school, we thought it was the perfect time to highlight Innisfail’s earliest learning facilities.
Innisfail’s first schoolhouse was built on land purchased by the lnnisfail school trustees. The school was ready for classes in the fall of 1892. The total cost to contractors was $965.
Enrollments increased quickly and when further expansion of the schoolhouse wasn’t feasible, a new schoolhouse was built. A new brick building was completed for students to start classes in April of 1908. This new building boasted 8 classrooms.
