In our ongoing series of posts acknowledging our 120 years since incorporation, we’ll be sharing some significant aspects of Innisfail’s history throughout the months leading up to November 20, 2023.
A development that changed the Innisfail area forever happened in 1891 with the construction of the Calgary-Edmonton Railroad Line. This line was eventually taken over by the Canadian Pacific Railway. The impact of the railroad was significant, with an influx of hundreds of new settlers, improved transportation for agricultural products, and more timely mail delivery. This wave of settlement resulted in a substantial growth in Innisfail’s population leading into the 20th Century.
