The new program, which began in January of 2021, provides up to $200 for each eligible resident to be used towards activity fees or membership costs.
The program, made possible through a generous contribution of the Innisfail Solar Corporation/Elemental Energy, is intended to help Innisfail residents experiencing financial hardship gain access to arts, culture, wellness and recreation activities. This assistance can also be used towards items that provide greater access to the community, such as bus passes.
Innisfail Solar, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Elemental Energy Inc., began operations of the Innisfail Solar Farm in July of 2020 and – as part of an agreement with the Town – will contribute $20,000 annually to a community development fund, a portion of which provides the funding for the Fee Assistance Program. The fund also provides funding for the Town of Innisfail’s new Community Benefit Fund which is available to local community and non-profit groups.
Eligible applicants include those receiving unemployment benefits, Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) or those falling below the federal government’s low income cut-offs (LICOs). Applications can be submitted at any time and will be reviewed by the Town’s Community Services Department. Applicants must be a resident of the Town of Innisfail, and the program is open to all ages.
