In late October of 2019, Town Council directed administration to evaluate the possibility of train whistle cessation within Innisfail.
In May of this year, the Town – after issuing a request for proposal – contracted Watt Consulting to conduct a CP Rail Crossings Safety Assessment and Whistle Cessation Review.
The Town continues to work towards ending train whistles within town limits. Steps so far include consulting with the railway company and completing a railway crossing assessment.
The latest part of the process includes notifying the public, including all relevant associations and organizations.
Although Town staff continues to work towards cessation, there is no guarantee that the process will lead to this result. Approval is required from both CP Rail and Transport Canada. The opportunity for these groups to approve the Town’s request will come later in the application process.
