Self-Guided Field Trips
The resources on this page were created to help teachers and community leaders prepare for an engaging and educational visit to the Napoleon Lake Trail.
The trail guide, developed by the Town of Innisfail and Fuse Consulting, provides background information, activities, and reflection questions to support learning before, during, and after your visit.
Exploring Napoleon Lake provides meaningful, real-world experiences that help bring Alberta’s science curriculum to life. Students at every grade level can make valuable connections, developing strong ties with the environment and the natural world.
Signage (see example below) has also been installed at the lake to help those using the guide as they visit the site.
The Exploring the Napoleon Lake Trail document was developed with support from the family – and in memory of – local resident Monty Wild. Below is the family’s dedication:
In memory of Monty Wild, we hope this Self-Guided Field Trip Program will be a catalyst to encourage you through an educational journey to appreciate the importance of our natural environment. Monty had a deep love for the outdoors, and time with his family and friends was often spent identifying the flora and fauna. When you spend time in nature and understand its value, that is how it will be protected for future generations.
