The new vehicle will serve multiple roles and is able to respond to a wide range of emergency situations.
Gary Leith, Town of Innisfail Manager of Fire & Protective Services, calls the new vehicle a “force multiplier”.
“The new unit can operate as a pumper to suppress fires, but can also serve as a rescue unit,” explains Leith. Previously, these duties were handled by two different vehicles. “We can now respond to a variety of situations with the one vehicle and crew”.
The new truck replaces a pumper truck, which was used to respond to calls involving fires, and a rescue vehicle used to respond to non-fire incidents such as motor vehicle accidents.
The last new vehicle acquired by the department was the rescue vehicle which was purchased in 1998.
The new truck will be available for viewing by the public at the department’s open house and barbecue on Thursday, October 10, from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
