The following are highlights from the August 12, 2019 regular meeting of council.
Hereford Meadows Development
A proposal to allow for a portion of the zoning in the Hereford Meadows Development area – located at the south end of town – to be changed from Future Development (RD) to Highway Commercial (HWY-C) was brought before council at the July 8, 2019 regular meeting. A public hearing was held in council chambers on Monday and after brief discussions and no public opposition, council approved the changes.
Change of Zoning, 5160 56 Street
A proposed bylaw would allow for zoning of a residential parcel to be changed from Residential Multi-family District (R3) to Residential Single-family District (R1-B). After a public hearing was held, council approved the changes.
CAO Report
Highlights of the report included the hiring of a new director of operations and an update on grant funding from the provincial government. Council accepted the report as information.
Town Clock
In late 2018, plans for the purchase and installation of a town clock were presented to council, with community groups providing a portion of the funding. At Monday’s meeting, Town Council approved moving ahead with the project.
Regional Assessment Review Board Bylaw
The Town of Innisfail is currently a partner in the Regional Assessment Review Board, as outlined in an existing bylaw. After changes were made to the wording of the province’s Municipal Government Act, changes were required in the wording of this bylaw. Town Council was presented with these changes, which were then passed.
Utility Billing Fee
A fee for those choosing to continue receiving printed utility bills was originally included as part of the utility bylaw approved earlier this year. Following further discussion, an amendment to the bylaw to remove the fee was presented according to direction from council. The amendment to the bylaw was passed, removing the fee.
Proclamations
Town Council proclaimed Sunday, October 6, 2019 as World Cerebral Palsy Day, and September as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in Innisfail.
