The following are highlights from the June 24, 2019 regular meeting of council.
Deputy Mayor
Councillor Gavin Bates was sworn in as Deputy Mayor in accordance with Council’s Deputy Mayor Rotational Schedule.
Wildrose Humane Society
Representatives from the Wildrose Humane Society presented to Council, highlighting the services that they offer. The organization is expanding its services to include the rescue, fostering, and adoption of dogs as well as cats. Council thanked representatives for their presentation.
Request to assist Residents with Intermunicipal Development
A request was made to Council to assist a group of local landowners in addressing legal barriers to the development of land east of Highway 2. Under the Intermunicipal Development Plan, no permanent development can occur until partner municipalities review the current status of the lands involved. Council directed Town administration to look into the issue in greater detail and to present findings at a future council meeting.
Traffic Bylaw 1629-2019
The Town of lnnisfail Traffic Bylaw has been reviewed by administration and amendments have been proposed. Significant changes include school zone hours remaining in effect from 08:00 to 16:30 on school days and updates to penalties to better reflect those in the Provincial Traffic Act. The proposed bylaw, including amendments, was given first reading and approved by Council.
Rail Line Right of Way Safety
Town staff updated Council on recent incidents involving young people in the community and trains passing through town. Staff advised that efforts are ongoing to both address the issue and educate students of the associated potential dangers. Council accepted the report as information.
Meeting Cancelled
Council approved the cancellation of the July 2, 2019 Agenda & Priorities public meeting.
